The (Unofficial) GlobalTalk Wiki – minimal Theme

This is an old revision of the document!

Welcome to europlus’ (Unofficial) GlobalTalk Wiki!

This will be the home of information about my GlobalTalk resources under this top-level wiki, and a place where GlobalTalk node admins (including me!) can share information about their network/s under sub-wikis which they control and populate.

The idea came about because of the limited display space available in the Official GlobalTalk Spreadsheet for information on setup, resources, and experimentation, and because of the disparate places and ways my information and resources are made available.

Sub-wikis

Here are the sub-wikis set up so far (in alphabetical order):

  • WOzFest HQ: info on europlus’ main GlobalTalk zone.

Apple Internet Router Administrator’s Guide and Addendum

I am moving my AIR manual resources to a page on this wiki to simplify access to this resource for the GlobalTalk community.

Basic Info

Only edit this fieldset if “Do you have a preferred image/favicon?” is set to “Yes”.

Alternatively, send me a private message on Mastodon or TinkerDifferent with the required info.

For the moment, creating the sub-wikis is a manual process for me, but it’s pretty quick

As per the above, you can have your own site logo and favicon – I’m currently [manually] setting the defaults to the above image from the front cover of Apple Internet Router Administrator’s Guide.

I’ll e-mail you the login details for your admin account – go to the subdomain (“abc.globaltalk.wiki“ in the above example) in a browser and click Log In at top right, then enter the user details I sent.

The site title shown above is under ''Admin > Configuration Settings > Wiki title’’, and is probably the first thing you’ll want to change (it’ll initially just be the subdomain prefix (“abc” in the above example).

Then, click on the site logo or title to visit the start/home page, then click the pencil with the plus at the right of the content display areas to select “Create this page” – and you can start editing away.

Generating a preview saves the Draft content, and when you’re done you can put a summary of the changes below the text entry field if you want, and also indicate if you’ve just made minor changes.

You can play around in the Playground – just click on your site’s Sitemap at top right, choose playground to expand that area, and the indented playground to try things out.

Also, the DokuWiki site has tips about formatting syntax in the content editor a Manual, and a Tips and Tricks page with some collected wisdom of developers and users.

Reach out if you have any questions!

Site Plugins

These are the additional site plugins I have enabled here, let me know if you want any extra. I’ll likely expand these as I go and create a separate page for this list.

  • Bureaucracy: allows you to create forms.
  • SMTP: allows you to send e-mails via SMTP, usable with the Bureaucracy plugin (it’s how I created the above form). Make sure you setup your sending e-mail address in the Notification section of the Configuration Settings item on the Admin page, and you can test your e-mail setup using the “Check SMTP configuration” item on the Admin page.
  • Bureaucracy Toolbar: Creates a text formatting toolbar for “text area” (multi-line/resizable) form fields.
  • Calendar: Allows you to host a calendar – I may or may not use this here.
  • DataTables: DataTables jQuery plugin implementation – fancier than DokuWiki’s builtin tables.
  • diagrams: diagrams.net/draw.io-based diagramming tool – might be good for network maps?
  • EditTable: A visual table editing and creation plugin.
  • mikioplugin: Adds a lot of Bootstrap page elements, and designed to work with the mikio template (see below).
  • tabbox: Allows the creation of tabbed boxes of content.
  • Timezone changer: Set your site’s timezone so you see correct times on page modified dates, etc.

Site Plugins

These are the additional templates I have enabled here, let me know if you want any extra. I may expand these as I go and create a separate page for this list.

IMPORTANT NOTE

This site is not affiliated with the “official” #MARCHintosh GlobalTalk Admins, or the work they do. It is run by me as an individual GlobalTalk community member – initially as an idea for myself, but I’m making it available as a resource for other community members. All are welcome to join.
